Bumble bee in the garden

Bumble bee with mite

I’ve got some foxgloves in my garden, and I’ve been enjoying taking photos of bumble bees flying in and out of their trumpets. When I looked at this one on the computer, I noticed that it had some sort of mite either on it or attached to it.

I’ve since looked it up on the internet and found some photos with poor bees completely infested with them.

I hope it’s just hitching a ride rather than being a parasite sucking the poor bee’s blood.

It looks really big compared with the size of the bee doesn’t it?

The lantern at Strumble Head

While I was on holiday in Wales with a group of friends, one of the places we visited was Strumble Head. It was beautiful! We had a picnic looking out over the sea, and we spotted some seals basking on the rocks.

What I liked best was the lighthouse. It looked so beautiful against the blue sky and I spent some time watching it and learning the lantern’s sequence so that I could anticipate it and take this shot.

Cup cake flag

As it was held on the weekend of the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton, the theme of Eckington’s Open Garden weekend was weddings.

After looking round several gardens, we went to the village hall for a cup of tea and a cake and that was where I found this wonderful cup cake flag. I would have liked one of the cupcakes, but I didn’t want to spoil the beauty of the flag, so I bought some lemon drizzle cake instead! It was delicious!

Flags and bunting

Royal Wedding

It was lovely the way that everywhere was decorated with bunting and Union Flags for the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton on 29th April 2011. I wish it would happen more often.
